5th Grade Wrap-Up
The civilization that I enjoyed studying the most this year was Ancient Greece. I already knew a bit about Ancient Greek Mythology and stuff, but I learned a lot more about the actual history. I was able to focus on the little details of the mythology, 'cause I knew all of the general stuff. I learned so much about the daily lifestyle and traditions of the Ancient Greeks that now many of the myths that I'd read previously made sense from the information we've gathered this year in 5E. The thing that I found most interesting about history in general is that so many traditions and inventions have been passed down from civilization to civilization, and we have a lot from the ancient peoples today! Here is how I'm doing with SS skills:
Our first long-term research project, that led to a 5 paragraph essay, was on basic things in Ancient Egyptian culture, such as a particular pharaoh or important person, religion, a specific god of goddess, mummification, and more. I chose to do the Afterlife, which is basically like the Ancient Egyptian version of heaven and/or hell. I think easiest part of the project for me was the cover on my essay. It was of the Weighing of the Heart Ceremony, with Anubis and Ammit the Devourer. I think that the creative project was most difficult for me, because I did an oral presentation as a random dead person, and I couldn't find my script, so I had to try to just say what I could remember from my studies and from half-memerizing my script. The next time we do a long-term project, I will try to focus more and go a little faster. I think that I need the most practice on note-taking, out of everything.
